Professional Headshots Sessions

Some helpful information for Professional Headshot session

A good headshot is critical for your first impression and to get you through the first stage of any audition, interview or casting call. Your headshot is an important marketing tool and calling card in presenting you to prospective employers, directors and agents.

Your headshot should be a natural and realistic portrayal of you on your best day and should not be heavily edited or “photoshopped” Any director will not be impressed if you look different than the image they have in front of them.

Arrive in good time and try and look as natural as possible with makeup most often less is more. Any minor skin blemishes can be addressed during editing. In order to create great images, you will need to arrive at the session feeling and looking your best. Eating well with plenty of exercise and avoiding alcohol and late nights will all help.

Good headshots will capture your natural expressions particular in the eyes and show off your best features to their advantage.

If you are considering an acting role please let us know what particular roles you would like to play as this could help us capture different poses and expressions of your headshots.

Please ask for advice on what to bring in terms of clothing and wardrobe changes. One suggestion is to bring a formal and informal set which can provide a good range of images. Different colours are also a good option but let us know in advance so we can consider background colour and texture.

Consider colours that are a good match to your skin tones and eyes. Avoid large jewellery patterns and stripes which can be distracting. Solid colours tend to work better and are less of a distraction

If possible, try and avoid a lot of white unless it can add to a particular style or expression.

If you have long hair you want to consider different hair styles such as tied back or loose. Men should consider if they want a shaven or unshaven look.

Black & white images have been very popular in recent years and have been the main choice for UK actor headshots. Our recommendation is to have a selection of colour and black & white images in your portfolio.

Your headshot style will depend on who you are and what you need the headshot for.  Consider how you want to market yourself and who your target audience is.

Some casting directors prefer prints rather than digital downloads. Always ask before sending so you know their preferred option.
